Life of Pi
Movie analysis
Title:
Life of Pi
Genre:
Adventure, Drama
Characters:
Piscine Molitor, Richard Parker, & Pi’s family
Setting:
Pacific Ocean
Symbolism:
“ TIGER “ a symbol I chose to share because in
life represents as an obstacles in our way to success. We choose to fight it to
overcome every problems that what we encountered in our life. Sometimes we
choose to take it for granted by taking no actions to answer it right away.
Plot: Pi's parents named him Piscine Molitor after a
swimming pool in France. As a child he changed his name to "Pi” as the
mathematical symbol, because he was tired of being called "Pissing Patel.
Their family owned a zoo, and Pi took great interest in the animals, especially
a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker. Pi’s father decides to move the family to
Winnipeg in Canada, where he intends to settle and sell the zoo animals. One
night there is a storm the ship begins to founder while Pi is on deck. He tries
to find his family, but a crew member throws him into a lifeboat. Pi watches
helplessly as the ship sinks, killing his family and the crew. He builds a
small raft and stays at a safe distance from the tiger. Pi begins fishing and
is able to feed the tiger. He also collects rain water for both to drink. After
many days at sea, Pi trains the tiger to accept him in the boat. He also
realizes that caring for the tiger is keeping him alive. Weeks later and half
dead, they reach a floating island. Both Pi and Richard Parker eat and drink
freely and regain strength. But at night the island transforms into a hostile
environment: the fresh water turns acidic, the resident meerkats sleep in the
trees, the plants are carnivorous. Pi discovers the island's secrets when he
finds a human tooth. As Pi and the tiger leave by next morning from the said
floating island. Pi is crushed that that the tiger does not acknowledge him
before disappearing into the jungle. Without saying goodbye for a person who
cares a lot is a big insult and disrespect for a feeling before it goes.

-
This film talks
about that as a simple person steps on its journey, that person is brave enough
to face whatever challenges that may encountered in the way of experiencing

itself. To me everything is everything, nothing is impossible to pursue the
great achievement and dream.

I can relate
myself to Pi’s characteristic, because in times of needs and troubles he is confident
enough to face the reality what happening in his life. Although at first he
feel nervous because in middle of nowhere you just scramble, everything went
down, no see’s no one hear. I can say I
got this never say die attitude, because in my life there are times that I give
up, there times that I fight for what I have to do. Never say die spirit for is
a never give up situation, as God’s is always at our back to watch us, guide us
and protect us in every trials in our life.
